Our Story

Biosfer Teslab is a spin-off company of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) and the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV). It operates in the field of in vitro diagnosis with the aim of providing analytical services to study and monitor metabolism alterations in order to advance knowledge and improve people’s health.

Biosfer Teslab was founded in December 2013 with the aim of developing in vitro diagnostic systems to look for new disease biomarkers, applying nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis technology on plasma samples. This vocation allowed the company to develop an advanced lipoprotein test (Liposcale® Test) based on the analysis of the MRI signal of the methyl and methylene groups constituting the cholesterol and triglycerides transported by the lipoproteins, which allow the lipoprotein profile to be thoroughly characterized into the different components.

Over the years, Biosfer has continued to focus on innovation and constant development. This has enabled the company to receive funding from institutions that support the development of competitive innovation projects. Because of this impulse, the company has managed to advance in the extraction of information from the NMR spectra, validating the use of NMR spectroscopy for the characterization of biofluids and biotissues in biomedical and clinical research environments, being able to offer a global MR metabolomics profiling that includes, in addition to lipoprotein profiling (Liposcale® test), glycoprotein profiling, characterization of the aqueous plasma metabolome (LMWM) and lipidome characterization. 

Thanks to the innovative spirit of the company and themore than 30,000 samples analyzed within its research, the company has transformed the information used in the field of biomedical research into a new unique and innovative product within the public´s reach: the MetBalanceTest. 

The MetBalanceTest translates the molecular information based on metabolomics into a complete tool that combines the performance of a single blood analysis by NMR, together with artificial intelligence and data visualization tools to evaluate the status of your metabolism using personalized precision medicine from a holistic approach and taking into account the main aspects that can affect your metabolic balance and therefore your well-being. 

The MetBalanceTest serves as a global guide to improve an individual´s health and revolutionize the way of taking care of oneself, since it generates explanatory images of their metabolic age and their metabolic health status, allowing them to compare these values with their real age and clearly see if they need to improve their health.

ACCIÓ GRANT

BIOSFER TESLAB, SL with the support of ACTION in the frame of the Operative Program FEDER Catalonia 2014-2020 has carried out the “DEVELOPMENT And VALIDATION OF ADVANCED DIAGNOSTIC TEST Of INFLAMMATION And  INSULIN RESISTANCE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF  CARDIOVASCULAR RISK USING NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE”  (RD15-1-0013).

Biosfer Teslab, along the project, has developed a system of prediction, using of advanced prediction tests, with the aim to improve the evaluation of cardiovascular risk and to identify those individuals with residual cardiovascular risk that would remain undiagnosed with classical risk factors.

In particular, the company has developed a glycoprotein test and a LMWM test - that includes, branched amino acids -, as they have been identified as inflammatory markers and involved in insulin resistance processes, respectively.

The Agency for the Competitiveness of the Company, ACTION, aiding to industrial research centers and experimental development, has granted Biosfer Teslab with an amount of 67,728.97 €.

This aid is programmed in the axis 1, "Boost research, technological development and innovation", specific objective OE 1.2.2, "Transfer and spreading of technology and cooperation between companies and universities or other research centers", line of action "Collaborative R+D projects" under the framework of the FEDER Operational Program of Catalonia 2014-2020
